Palace Visit

On our first day in Seoul we visited the Deoksugang Palace. It isn't the main palace of the Korean Emperors, but served as the capital palace when the main one was destroyed by fire after the Japanese attacked in 1592. The Korean emperors built a new palace in 1611 that still stands and moved out of this one. In 1897 a new regime was in power and moved the palace back to this complex and eventually built a new western style building to serve as the palace.
The Japanese came back and moved the palace back to the other palace (Changdeokgang) where the emperor worked for the Japanese. The Japanese eventually expanded the new palace and made it an art museum in 1938. The picture directly below shows the two palaces. I hope I got the history correct!
